Tip of the Week: Streamlining Your Workstation for Focused Productivity

Tip of the Week: Streamlining Your Workstation for Focused Productivity

Productivity is generally included in any company’s list of priorities, and among those, it generally ranks somewhat near the top. With workplaces beginning to open with very different processes than what they are used to, productivity may be a little challenging to maintain. That’s why, for this week’s tip, we’re sharing one way you can hit the ground running at the start of your day.

A quick disclaimer: the following tip involves changing some minor settings on a workstation. We recommend checking with your IT management resource before you or your team members dive too deep into doing so, just to be safe.

A not-inconsequential part of each day is likely spent accessing all the programs and software titles that your team needs to accomplish what they need to do as they log in. There is an easy way to cut down on the time that is required to do so: setting these programs and software titles to open automatically.

How to Do So:

  • First, you will need to locate the app in the Start menu. Once you have done so, right-click the app and select More
  • Then, by selecting Open file location, you will find a shortcut to that particular app.
  • Now you have to add that shortcut to a new folder. Leaving the file location open, press Win + R. This will display a nifty little utility. Enter shell:startup into the field and hit Enter to open the Startup folder.
  • Finally, copy-and-paste the app shortcut from the file location into the Startup folder, and you’re done!

From that point forward, each time you log in, whatever programs you add to the Startup folder will also activate as you do so.
